Never Mind the Balearics, here’s some punk rock from Mallorca. Bomba X, featuring seasoned old hands from the hardcore scene including an ex-pat Brit, pump out some old school punk drawing on a range of influences including The Ruts.
If you say Balearic, people think dance music, but there has long been a thriving punk scene in these islands – particularly Mallorca. Bomba X is its latest punk rock export, featuring some seasoned veterans from the hardcore scene. Bomba X has members of Mallorcan bands Bad Taste, Disease and Oi! The Arrase (Palma’s Anarcho punk meets Oi! answer to Oi Polloi). Hampshire ex-pat Paul whose provenance includes Older Than Dirt and This is Brainwash handles the bass duties. Old punks don’t die, nor do they stand at the back as the old t-shirt used to say. They refuse to be quiet, and revert to type. If they’ve got the bug, they can’t stop making music. It’s in the blood!
The more I listen to this album, the better it gets. There’s something different every time I play it. There are hidden layers. That is the sign of good song writing, good performances and good production.
